Apotheon is a Metroidvania action-platformer from Alientrap set in Ancient Greek mythology, with a striking visual style drawn directly from black-figure pottery, the silhouetted art form that decorated Greek ceramics around 600 BC. It’s an immediately recognizable aesthetic that made the technical work just as important as usual: any performance issues or visual inconsistencies would stand out immediately against such a distinctive art style. Sickhead handled the PS4 port, adapting Alientrap’s XNA/MonoGame codebase for console hardware, the same framework we had deep experience with from projects like TowerFall. The game launched simultaneously on PS4 and PC on February 3, 2015, and was featured as a free PlayStation Plus title that same month, putting it in front of a massive audience right out of the gate.
