Real Heroes: Firefighter originally launched on the Wii in 2009, developed by Epicenter Studios. It’s a first-person fire and rescue action game where players step into the role of a newly recruited cadet, battling dynamic, spreading fires across Los Angeles at locations like a high-rise building, a malfunctioning tech lab, and an amusement park. Over a decade after its Wii debut, Sickhead brought the game to three modern platforms — Switch in 2019, PS4 in 2020, and Xbox One in 2022, a rollout that stretched across nearly three years. Each platform arrived on its own timeline, meaning three separate rounds of certification, three different input and hardware profiles, and the same aging Vicious Engine codebase revisited each time. The core technical challenge across all three was consistent: modernizing a game built for Wii-era hardware while keeping the dynamic fire simulation intact and performing reliably on each new target platform.
